IROQUOIS – The township’s exit strategy from the golf course business recently hit a snag.

This spring members of the Iroquois Golf Course Municipal Board (the IGC board consists of the five members of South Dundas council) decided to lease out operations of the municipally-owned Iroquois Golf Course for 2011 and beyond. They decided to do so through a request for proposal process, and last week the deadline for submissions through the RFP passed. No proposals were submitted. This was confirmed by South Dundas chief administrative officer Stephen McDonald, Monday.

IROQUOIS – Lots of couples have hobbies, often a favourite craft, sport or pastime that they enjoy in each others company, but a local couple has a hobby that’s a little different.

Rather than treasure hunting through a common hobby like antiquing, Mario Pronovost and Joanne Graham spend their time hunting for treasures of a different sort. The two travel scouting musical talent that they want to bring home to share with their community. What they have brought home all summer is an array of well known artists.

MORRISBURG – Glo Soleil in Morrisburg is now Morrisburg’s Sears catalogue store, which has really afforded store owner Karen Harper the opportunity to let people know that Glo Soleil is more than just tanning.

Although tanning services are an important part of the business, the store also sells unique and trendy home and fashion accessories.

“I’ve always identified with Sears, and this gives me a great opportunity to gain exposure to new clientele, and really grow the retail side of the business,” said Harper.

MORRISBURG–The Canadian Club is preparing to kick off another season this September 15, when guest speaker, Lyle Van Allen will bring back memories of the St. Lawrence Seaway through his collection of memorabilia.

IROQUOIS–If you notice an influx of Classic Cars through Iroquois on Sunday, September 12, don’t be alarmed!  The Highway 43 Car Club is coming to town, hosting their inaugural “Rumble at the Locks” Car Show.

The show, which takes place at the Iroquois Locks, will be on from 9 a.m. – 3. p.m., with all the cars and trucks perched up on the lookout area.  The club is hoping to attract cars from all over Eastern Ontario and the Northern United States.

MORRISBURG – The instructor of the foot reflexology course, from which Tammy Mattice graduated, was from Vancouver, but part of the curriculum hit pretty close to home.

This instructor from the west coast spoke about the work of Dr. Locke. “We thought that was pretty amazing,” said Natalie Brundige, owner of Lakeshore Massage Therapy in Morrisburg, where Mattice is the registered reflexology therapist on site.

It turns out that some of what Dr. Locke did that made him so famous is reflexology.

IROQUOIS – In March of 2010, Doug Millard of Iroquois set himself a goal of running 450 kilometres, the distance from Cornwall to Toronto, via a ‘virtual run.’ His aim was to help raise $100,000 to build a new school in the African nation of Ethiopia.

IROQUOIS – When Dr. Geoffrey Peters decided to participate in a 10 km run, to raise awareness of and funds for the Canadian Diabetes Association, he thought that training for the run was going to be the difficult part.

“Actually, the training has been the easy part,” said Dr. Peters. “For me, the more difficult part has been asking people if they want to make donations in support of my fund raising effort.”
