WILLIAMSBURG – South Dundas council is only a short drive away from reaching a destination that they have been travelling towards since the  first budget of the term.

Their plan; to double surface treat as many of the gravel roads as possible.

The thinking behind this plan was to significantly cut down on yearly maintenance costs associated with loose surface roads, such as the addition of stone, calcium and regular grading.

RIVERSIDE HEIGHTS – “I never thought this would happen. I am so honoured to be here,” said Suzette Whitney Goodhand at the  March 25 ceremony at Trinity Anglican Church to officially unveil the marker to commemorate the grave site of her great grandfather, the Honourable Sir James Pliny Whitney, Premier of Ontario from 1905 to 1914.

Mrs. Goodhand, the great-granddaughter of Sir Whitney recalled stories told by her mother and uncle who grew up in the Whitney household in Toronto.

“My mother and uncle worshiped my great-grandfather. They often told of his campaigns.”

Instead, in his place on the bare stage stood Paul, first century  educated Jew, wealthy Roman citizen and converted Christian disciple. Dynamic, passionate, and opinionated, this St. Paul had a message to share with a modern audience.

MORRISBURG – St. James Anglican Church in Morrisburg was packed on Saturday night,  March 27, for a performance of Roger Jones new musical, based on the life of St. Peter, Rock.

A second concert, Sunday, at the Community Christian Reformed Church in Dixon’s Corners also drew capacity crowds.

MORRISBURG – Derek Jones, Melanie and the General Electyk and Stephanie Coleman put on a show at the Morrisburg Meeting Centre on Saturday, March 27, that left the audience overwhelmed by the sheer musicality of these area performers.

“We have been wanting to give more time to our emerging artists,” said St. Lawrence Acoustic Stage Performances board member, Sandra Whitworth. “This concert, featuring three new performers, is a bit of a change of pace for us. We hope you enjoy it.”

WILLIAMSBURG – “The more eyes we have on this document, the better,” said South Dundas manager of planning and enforcement Donald Lewis at the first of four open house meetings which give the public the opportunity to check out their property designations and those of the properties surrounding them.

The room full of maps shows all the land designations throughout South Dundas and has corresponding documentation available spelling out the permitted uses of these lands.

MORRISBURG – The idea of bringing public washrooms to the Morrisburg Plaza may become reality this year.

South Dundas council has identified this project as a priority project and at the Mar., 16 meeting took steps to make it happen.

Council approved the removal of the existing building and looked at plans for the new building which will be constructed in its place.

The proposed new building will be constructed in the style of some of the buildings at Upper Canada Village, with a cottage-style roof line.

WILLIAMSBURG – Storage and office space rentals are part of the plan to give Dixon’s Corners Public School a new lease on life.

The former school, which has sat empty for a couple of years was purchased and the new owners applied for a zoning amendment. The meeting took place at the Mar., 16.

Arie Vandodewaard explained that they hope to be able to rent out a few rooms of the 10 room school for office space or storage and then have the remainder available for community use.
