MORRISBURG – St. James Anglican Church in Morrisburg will be the site, on March 27, of an outstanding musical concert, Rock,  personally conducted by acclaimed Christian composer and musician, Roger Jones.

A choir made up of 50 South Dundas singers, and featuring local guest soloists Sarah Bowers and David Black of Morrisburg, will join the renowned English conductor and his touring singers for two powerful performances.

MORRISBURG – It is going to be a night for music lovers to remember.

Three outstanding local artists will all be performing on the stage at the Morrisburg Meeting Centre Saturday, March 27, at 7 p.m. All original, all incredibly talented, Derek Jones, Stephanie Coleman, and Melanie and The General Electryck promise to make this a concert for true music lovers.

This evening of great entertainment is being sponsored to the community as part of the St. Lawrence Stage Acoustic Performances Inc. concert series.

Area amateur radio hobbyists are interested in sharing their craft with anyone interested.

They would like to train volunteers to become amateur radio operators to aid in emergency communications.

During the 1998 Ice Storm amateur radio provided communications from emergency shelters back to township offices, as this type of communication gets through when other means fail.

Age is no barrier. One of the youngest ham operators in Canada just turned 11, and there are many operators in excess of 90.

CORNWALL - An effort to raise funds to build a memorial specifically dedicated to those soldiers of the 33 Canadian Brigade Group (33 CBG) who have fallen in the line of duty, is currently being spearheaded by all the regimental sergeant majors within the Brigade. The 33 CBG is a large Army Reserve formation which includes the members of the SD&G Highlanders, the “Glens,” who are deeply connected to the people of South and North Dundas.

WILLIAMSBURG – The cost of South Dundas council members to the taxpayers of South Dundas increased a small amount in 2009.

South Dundas treasurer Shannon Geraghty released the statement of remuneration and expenses at the Mar., 2 council meeting.

According to the report, $98,947 worth of remuneration for meetings, honoraria, mileage and conference/trade show expenses was paid to council members in 2009.

In 2008, $94,646 was paid to council.

MORRISBURG – The Fraser Institute, a Vancouver-based think tank, whose stated mandate is to advocate for freedom and competitive markets, recently released its annual report card on Ontario elementary schools.

Yearly the Institute releases a report which ranks elementary schools throughout the province of Ontario based on statistics from the EQAO (Education Quality and Accountability Office) standardized provincial testing.

MORRISBURG - The board of the St. Lawrence Acoustic Stage Performances Inc. is very pleased to announce that on March 1, 2010, they were awarded a grant in the amount of $3,500 to help support their upcoming 2010-2011 Music and Workshop series.

The funds come from the Ontario Arts Council, and have been awarded to the St. Lawrence Stage in the category of Presenter/Producer.

The OAC fosters the creation and production of art for the benefit of all Ontarians and supports literary, visual, dramatic, dance and musical arts.

MORRISBURG - After five years of service as the honorary colonel of the SD&G Highlanders, Bill Shearing of Morrisburg was honoured at a special retirement ceremony held at the Cornwall Armoury on February 11, 2010,  and hosted by mayor Bob  Kilger,

Later, Colonel Shearing shared memories and impressions of his time with the Highlanders in an interview with The Leader.
