MORRISBURG – When the new leaders of the South Dundas Chamber of Commerce talk about renewal, they are not referring to membership dues, they are talking about overhauling the organization.

Last week, the two people most likely to become the new president and vice president of the organization met with The Leader at the South Dundas Chamber of Commerce office now located in the Morrisburg Plaza between The Basket Case and Timmy’s Place.

MORRISBURG – The popularity of sightseeing cruises taking place July 27 to July 30 as part of the Old Home Week, 150th anniversary of Morrisburg is unmistakable.

“Tickets are selling very well,” said Del Jones, who is organizing bringing the tour boat The Sea Fox II, to Morrisburg.

“I have had calls from as far away as Ottawa and since I was going to be in the area last week I personally delivered seven dinner tickets to St. Albert and three to Lancaster.”

MORRISBURG - The controversy begins on June 6, 1944.

As exploding underwater mines and incoming artillery shells pummeled the ‘second wave’ at Juno Beach near Bernieres-sur-Mer, a Lt. Gilbert A. Milne, Royal Canadian Navy, leaned over the side of the landing craft he was riding in, and took a single  black and white photograph.

He shot  a sister landing craft, designated LC 299, steaming to the Normandy beach.

MORRISBURG – Well, the excitement grows as Old Home Week comes ever closer. Do you have tickets for all the events you hope to attend? Tickets for the barbecues and dances will be available at the legion (call 543-3091), but note that dinner and dance tickets are sold separately. As usual, the barbecues begin at 5 p.m. Why not make a night of it and attend both?

Duelling Pianos is on July 23, while July 30 will feature the Duke Ellington Band. (If you remember Ellington, you are probably in my age group.) So, let’s have a party.

Wendy Gibb, Leader Staff

MORRISBURG – “Why do you suppose they’re late?” Wynne Trueman (Susan Greenfield) anxiously asks her husband Max (Jamie Williams) as they wait for old friends Roger and Abby Nash to arrive for the weekend.

“Maybe he’s caught in one of those leg hold traps I set for him,” Max replies, hopefully.

And that pretty much sets the tone of Norm Foster’s hilarious look at relationships when two ill assorted couples spend a weekend learning all about each other...to their horror.

IROQUOIS – Why deputy mayor? “Well to that I say, why not,” said James ‘Jim’ Locke, the newest name slated to be on the 2010 municipal election ballot in October.

Locke, who filed his nomination papers for the position of deputy mayor last Wednesday afternoon, said when he filed he figured he would be running against Del Jones in the election.

“I had no problem running against Del,” said Locke. However, when he discovered that Jones had re-filed nomination papers to seek election as mayor, he still had no problem with seeking the deputy mayor’s seat.
