MORRISBURG – “We need to get out of looking at the world as it was, and see it as it could be,” said Del Jones, who met with local media at the McIntosh Inn, Monday afternoon to discuss his plan to run for election as mayor of South Dundas this fall.

Jones, who now serves as South Dundas councillor, explained that although he signed on to seek election as deputy mayor early this year, when Mayor Robert Gillard announced that he will not seek re-election, Jones quickly re-evaluated his options.

Jones said he was not willing to oppose Gillard for the position of mayor.

IROQUOIS – “I think this council has done a fairly good job, and I want to see that continue, that’s my main driver in running for election as mayor,” said South Dundas deputy mayor Steven Byvelds, who met with local media at his Parlow Road home last Friday.

He explained that him running for mayor is not about changing the world.

“The people of South Dundas will decide who they want as a leader. If they want someone they can relate to, someone who has always been here and someone who is not over the top with ideas they can choose me,” said Byvelds.

MORRISBURG – Rain dampened the events and the spirits of party goers once again at the Morrisburg Village Plaza Party on Saturday.

Since its inception, some portion of the celebration has been rained on, and this year was no exception. Although the rains were not constant Saturday, they kept the crowds away.

The sun did shine on one event of the celebration, the Artisan’s and Farmer’s Market which took place on Friday. A dozen vendors set up under the big tent to sell their wares which included baked goods, produce and hand-crafted items.

For most at Seaway District High School, June 25 marks a fabulous date - the last day of exams. Once tests are handed in, pencils, book-bags and thoughts of school will drift away, and summer will officially begin.

However, for most grade 12 students, June 25 comes with a bittersweet feeling. For the last time these seniors will walk the halls of Seaway, as students at least.

“It’s weird that after all these years of being surrounded by these helpful teachers and classmates, we’re all going our separate ways now, but I wish everyone the best,” said Olivia Wright.
