Early success for high school's Haiti fund raiser
IROQUOIS – “The Threadz 4 Haiti campaign has exceeded my expectations so far,” said Sarah Fernetich, Seaway District High School teacher.
The t-shirt selling fund raising campaign undertaken by her grade 10 civics class secured over $1,700 from community sponsors and 60 t-shirts have been sold.
The proceeds from these sales will go to Red Cross relief efforts taking place in the wake of the earthquake disaster in Haiti.
In order to make sure that everyone who wants a shirt gets one, the group is now taking orders. They will be accepting orders until February 12. The shirts sell for $15.

“I had my civics class write a reflection on how they felt about being part of this campaign. I was blown away at their responses, said Fernetich.
“They were excited about participating in a fund raiser to help the victims of Haiti and felt proud of themselves for making a difference. They also said that they would be very likely to volunteer or fund raise in the future. They truly understand the meaning of being global citizens and I couldn’t be more proud.”
