MORRISBURG – The South Dundas Midget B Lions found themselves grounded in Upper Canada Minor Hockey East Division semi-final playoff action last week with two straight losses to the South Stormont Selects.

The four point series opened in Long Sault on Thursday, February 25.

After a scoreless first period and many great saves by Lions’ goaltender Curtis VanAllen, the Selects’ Kurtis Windenweder and Brent Harbers each scored in the second period for a 2-0 lead.

They scored again in the third period, along with one from Spencer Vivarais, for a 5-2 Selects’ lead.

Scoring the Lions’ goals in the third period were Adam Tindal with help from Kyle Adams, Brandon St. Louis and Zach Dowson.

Game two was played in Morrisburg on Sunday, February 28th.

Again the Selects got rolling in a big way, for a 2-0 lead, only to have Jordan McCaslin, assisted by Riley Nicolaassen and Sam Hodgson close the gap to one goal with 25 seconds left in the first period.

Both teams battled hard in the second period which was highlighted with great saves by both goaltenders to keep the period scoreless.

Kyle Maloney got the lone third period goal against Lions’ goaltender Tyler Gallinger, for the 3-1 Selects win, and the four points they needed to move on to the final playoff round in the East Division.
