MORRISBURG–South Dundas Major Midget B Rep Lions won two of their last four league games, to collect just enough points to finish league play in fourth spot, one point up on Cornwall.

After losing a 3-2 game to the Smiths Falls Bears at home on Wednesday, February 3rd,  the Lions travelled to Long Sault, on Monday, February 8th and played an exceptional game, beating the first place East Division Selects 4-1.

Eric Heldons started the scoring for the Lions at 10:30 in the first, assisted by Alex and Jeff McLaughlin.

Kyle Adams and Eric Saddlemire scored two more, back-to-back late in the second period, assisted by Cory Fowler, Sam Hodgson and Austin Marcellus.

The Selects fought back two minutes into the third with a goal from John Cleary, assisted by Dylan Fleury and Troy Veenstra, but that’s all they got past Curtis VanAllen.

Hodgson finished the scoring, for the 4-1 Lions win, with a nice slap shot from just inside the blue line.

In the Smiths Falls game, the Lions were tied 1-1 after first period of play with a goal from Marcellus assisted by Riley Nicolaassen and Saddlemire.

The Bears went ahead 2-1, five minutes into the second period, only to have Zach Dowson tie it again with a slap shot from just inside the blue line, fed from Marcellus and Saddlemire.

The Bears regrouped to put the winning third goal past Lions’ goaltender, Tyler Gallinger, with just 21 seconds left in the period.

On Friday, February 12th, the East Division’s second place Alexandria Glens were in town to hand the Lions a 5-2 loss.

After the Glens built a 2-0 lead, the Lions got back in it in the second period with goals from Saddlemire and Adam Tindal, assists going to Nicolaassen, Marcellus, Kyle Adams and Jordan McCaslin.

The Glens charged back, to carry a 4-2 lead into the third as they worked their way to the 5-2 win.

The Lions collected their final win of the regular season in their final game on Saturday, February 13th against Perth 4-0.

Due to injuries and game suspensions, Perth had a shortened bench which got even shorter in the second period due to penalties.  As as result the game was forfeited to the Lions who were up 4-0 at the time.  Scoring for the Lions were Adams, Sam Hodgson, Fowler and Nicolaassen.

The Lions will play Cornwall in their first round of playoffs (four point series), starting on Wednesday, February 17th in Morrisburg at 8 p.m.

Game two is set for the Si Miller arena in Cornwall, this Friday night, February 19 at 7:30 p.m.
