Morrisburg courthouse elimination on Counties’ agenda
Wednesday, February 3, 2010 - 19:00
South Dundas’ deputy mayor reported that the United Counties of SD&G is considering eliminating Provincial Offences courts in Morrisburg and Alexandria. As a member of counties council, Steven Byvelds reported that he will not support the proposal. He explained that his opposition is due, not only to the potential loss of the $4,000 rental revenue that is paid for the use of the municipally-owned building. “It has to do with the needs of our citizens,” said Byvelds, explaining that it important to be able to deal with offenses locally, rather than having to travel to Cornwall. The aim of the proposal is to cut costs. The matter was deferred by counties’ council until next month’s budget meeting.
