Record turnout for Lions community party
DIXONS CORNERS – A record crowd of over 300 turned out for the third annual Iroquois-Matilda Lions club and Morrisburg and District Lions club South Dundas Seniors Christmas Concert held at the Matilda Hall on Saturday, December 12.
“This was a free event,” said Lion Mae Pederson, 2nd vice president of the Morrisburg Lions.
“We had fantastic entertainment, all of it donated, a delicious lunch, including every dessert under the sun and small gift bags for every guest, donated by local merchants. This is a unique example of our two clubs working together to give South Dundas seniors a very special Christmas.”
Among this year’s entertainers were the Seaway Valley Singers, Mara Abrams, the Howard Family singers, Dan Edwards, violinist and the Iroquois-Matilda Lions actors. Betty Barkley and Dan Morrell provided background music as guests arrived.
Lion Bob Bechard, on the organizing committee, had high praise for community business sponsors who stepped in to help.
Santa, Leo the Lion and Frosty mingled with and greeted area seniors during the festive lunch.
“Many seniors in winter are almost shut-in,” Pederson said. “We see that they get to this party and home again safely.”
